Water Treatment Methods
Electrodialysis
Electrodialysis water treatment process ( ED – Process ) is one of the water treatment methods and Electro Dialysis Reversal (EDR) water treatment process employ specially prepared by the reverse osmosis water treatment membranes which are semipermeable to ions based on their charge, and they employ electrical current to reduce the ionic content of water.
Electrodialysis involves passing water between two plates with opposite electrical charges. The metals in the water are attracted to the plate with the negative charge while the non-metals are attracted to the plate with the positive charge. Both types of ions can be removed from the plates and discarded.
Electrodialysis water treatment is used with Water Quality on very hard water, with a hardness of more than 500 mg/L as calcium carbonate.
Recent developments have improved the efficiency of Electrodialysis by reversing the polarity of the electrodes periodically. This is called EDR and has reduced the scaling and fouling problems common to ED.

During Electrodialysis of saline water it is shown that H2 gas is generated at the cathode and Cl2 gas is generated at the anode. Is there any elecrolysis of water that also occurs in addition to salt splitting. In other words O2 at the anode?
I have TDS water up to 10,000 mg/L with hardness very high. I would like to investigate using an EDR process to pre-treat the water ahead of an RO unit or ED...(R orI?) to post treat after NF or RO an ahead of an Cation Ion exchange polisher unit. TH is very high - ie 4000 mg/L.
I am trying to minimize waste water generated and the power consumption/technological/recover advantages of each process configuration.
AS per my knowledge to reduce your power consumption and less economic select Electrodialysis process with pretreatment Softner unit to reduce hardness and Multimedia filtration to reduce suspended solids, silica and some organic compounds.
I was very pleased to find this web-site.I wanted to thanks for your time for this wonderful read!! I definitely enjoying every little bit of it and I have you bookmarked to check out new stuff of your blog post.
Electrodialysis explanation is very infromative and also given examination and plant photo is nice look.
Help, I'm doing a project on electrodialysis and i need to build a simple cell can someone please guide me. Thanks
Hello,
keep interest in ERD system base w.t.system as under
Application for sea water desalination having sea water TDS-40,000ppm
i) For the production of 100m3/day portable water having TDS- 500ppm.
ii) For the production of Nacl salt form concentrated Reject water .
Have possibility pl reply ASAP
I have an electroplatting plant and my waste water TDS is > 35000ppm and chlorine is > 2000ppm. Can I remove TDS and CHLORINE by this process??
